Fresh off the pages of USDM FREAX Magazine Volume 11, Satu Basanow’s S2000 is once again taking in the spotlight with our latest Feature on SNTRL. For Satu and his S2K, which he affectionately nicknamed, Eleanor, it’s been a journey of sorts. Two years in the making, his prior build for the Honda came in the form of carbon parts and 3-piece wheels, but a few months ago, Satu decided to give Eleanor a serious makeover. Always in competition with himself, he wanted to push the limits for what he could do as a car enthusiast and a hands-on builder. Satu wanted to take his S2000 to another level, and to do so, he knew he would have to go against the grain to reach the next plateau. While some “purist” denounce the route taken with Eleanor, the purpose Satu set out to accomplish was to build a car that was beautiful through-and-through with proper execution, still capable of daily driven activities and a car that would make him happy.
With his first-born on the way, he was given the blessing by his wife to follow his dream build before his baby’s arrival. For Satu, this makeover would become a project that would include a right-hand drive conversion, a plate shave/engine tuck, body work, new custom interior, Airtekk air suspension and a rebuild of his Work Bersaglio wheels to full custom spec. In a span of two-and-a-half months, he went right to work. From the moment, he first cut into the firewall, he knew there was no looking back. It was time to make his dreams a reality.
At our summer event, VERSUS Showdown, which we hosted in conjunction with our friends at True Driving, Eleanor took home the USDM FREAX Choice Award which earned him a special Feature in the magazine. The attention to detail of this fine ride is a testament to Satu’s passion as a car enthusiast who lives the life he loves. Not just did he complete the project with which he had carefully planned, but he did it out of a rented garage and within the time frame necessary. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype associated with car culture, but we appreciate people who approach a build with the intent of satisfying one’s own personal goals while holding standards to the highest level.
