US Drift Round 2
So this weekend I was back at Wall Speedway checking out some of the rising stars of the East Coast drift world. They ran the same exact course as Formula D ran two weeks prior. The US Drift drivers were told not to go to crazy on the bank because it sucks you in, but most of these drivers let it all hang out on Saturday.
In the first battle of the afternoon we saw Reese Marin vs. Gary Simmons. It was an exciting battle by both, but Simmons was just too much for Marin to handle.
In the next battle we saw Chris Allen vs. William Petrow, both New Jersey natives. Chris Allen was able to take out Petrow and advance on to the next round.
Next up we saw Brian Ricco vs. Nate Chen. We witnessed something that was a first, Ricco’s rear window blew out of the car. Chen took the win and moved on to the next round.
James Bissey vs Barnie Bowman was an exciting battle leading to a one more time. Bissey took a high line in the bank leading to his win.
We had Formula D driver Geoff Stoneback battling Gary Simmons. Although Simmons drove great it was not enough to take down Stoneback.
Chris Allen in round 2 battling Mustang driver Jared Licklider. Chris Allen drifted through the bank, where Licklider drove through it, but Licklider took the win.
NJ native Steve Angerman went up against Nate Chen. Both drivers took high lines on the bank, but Angerman’s lead run was too much for Chen.
Sal DiPampo vs. James Bissey, a battle between drivers in the top 3 of standing. This one would go to DiPampo.
Geoff Stoneback rode the rail on the bank on his lead run and then hunted down the mustang of Licklider on his chase run leading him to victory.
Sal DiPampo put himself in the finals with his victory over Steve Angerman.
The battle for third place was between Steve Angerman and Jared Licklider. Angerman drifted to a third place finish in Round 2 of US Drift.
In the final battle of the night we saw Geoff Stoneback vs. Sal DiPampo. Stoneback spun out on his lead run and DiPampo slid into him. Stoneback’s chase run was great but not enough to overcome his mistake on his lead run.
Congrats to Sal DiPampo for taking first, Geoff Stoneback for taking second, and Steve Angerman for taking third!
