Look Back: Fresh Meet Summer Bash 2013

Saturday 20 July, 2013 | By Evan Kaston

The last weekend in June marked the fourth of many more meets to come held by the one and only, Fresh Meet family (along with a few others). If you remember, the first Fresh Meet event was held in two small parking lots along with the dead end street that surrounded it. What made that event interesting and memorable to say the least, was the police surprising every attendee, including the Fresh Meet coordinators, and kicking everyone out. According to the authorities, we didn’t have a permit for the dead end street that some of the enthusiasts who entered the show were parked on, so we all had to evacuate. Basically they were just busting balls for no reason but since then, the Fresh Meet team has stepped their game up big time.

Later that year, the team came back with a huge meet in Kean University to accommodate more than enough people with no risk of getting kicked out. This year they came back bigger than ever in the same location with more cars and more events and more food to keep everyone in attendance happy. One thing I noticed, not only at Fresh Meet events, but at many meets and shows is that every year the quality of cars have gotten better and better. The cars get lower, the bodies get wider, and the bays somehow become more and more shaved. People in the scene are getting more creative with never before seen custom work that brings a hit of uniqueness to each owners very own vehicle. Whether it’s something subtle like cutting something out of the bay and filling it in; it’s not the most obvious modification but when another enthusiast scans over the bay, they’ll notice it’s anything but stock.

Between the Ruckus giveaway, the trophies, and the music and all the food stands, Fresh Meet 2013 was nothing less than a success. I of course, as always, arrived late but besides all the top notch cars I get to see every time I go, it’s always nice to see faces I haven’t in a while. That’s also what makes the scene what it is today; custom cars, good people, great stories, and beautiful weather.
